Michael Secrest kept his lead on the fifth day of the 3,117-mile Race Across America. The 32-year-old bicycle racer from Flint, Mich., crossed the Colorado-Kansas border Wednesday night and is about 1,518 miles into the race.
Austria’s Franz Spilaur is second, about three hours behind.
In the women’s division, Casey Patterson of Topanga is in first place. Wednesday night, she passed through Denver, which is about 1,344 miles into the race. Patterson has a two-hour lead over Cheryl Mack of Seattle.
