San Diego Roundup : Golf Benefit Scheduled for Lomas Santa Fe Club

Lomas Santa Fe Country Club will play host to a day of golf Monday beginning at 9 a.m. to benefit the Leukemia Society of America.

Local professionals will conduct a clinic at 9 a.m. The course, normally private, will be open to the public at 1 p.m.

Cost is $25 for the morning clinic and lunch, or $50 for the entire day.

The 14th annual Independence Day Coronado Half Marathon will be run July 4 at 6:30 a.m. beginning at Coronado High School.

Cost is $12 for registration before June 29, $15 after.

The course and race are sanctioned by The Athletics Congress. The course runs past the Hotel del Coronado and along the beach.

A 1 1/2-mile rough-water swim will be held Saturday at 7 a.m. at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas.

The event is open only to swimmers registered with U.S. Swimming or U.S. Masters Swim. Cost is $15.

Cash prizes of $500, $250 and $100 will be awarded to the top three men and top three women finishers. All finishers will receive a medal and a beach towel.

If the water temperature is 63 degrees or below, the race will be limited to one mile and swimmers will be required to wear wet suits.

The eighth annual Firecracker 10-kilometer and two-mile runs will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Oceanside Harbor.

Registration is available on the day of the race from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. Cost is $14 for the 10K, $10 for the two-mile run.

Bus shuttle service is available before and after the race from San Rafael Drive off the Camp Pendleton Interstate 5 exit. For more information, call the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce at 722-1534.
