A judge in Pensacola, Fla., ruled that a 14-year-old AIDS carrier should remain in state custody rather than be turned over to his mother, an attorney for the mother, Millie Sullivan, said. Circuit Judge William Frye earlier this month placed the youth, who has admitted to numerous homosexual acts, in a hospital psychiatric unit for 11 days. But nationwide publicity forced the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services to rescind its support for the confinement. State officials had sought custody on grounds that the boy’s mother could not control him.
