The outer casing of a grenade, wrapped in aluminum foil and rigged to four batteries and a clock, was found in a trash can in Lincoln Center in New York before a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet, authorities said. The harmless device was found by a porter around 4 p.m. in a receptacle in front of the Metropolitan Opera House, said Joseph Preiss, the center’s security director. Security precautions delayed the Bolshoi’s sold-out performance by 50 minutes.
