Countywide : Lawyers Ask Higher Fee for Handling Jail Matter

Share

A law firm that was granted a fee increase last month from $75,000 to $225,000 to handle Orange County’s court battle against Anaheim over a proposed jail near Anaheim Stadium is asking for $20,000 more to handle another jail-related matter.

The Los Angeles-based firm of Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn & Rossi has asked county supervisors to increase the maximum payment from $30,000 to $50,000 for its work on the proposed expansion of the Theo Lacy branch jail in Orange.

In addition, the supervisors have been asked to approve a $53,940 contract with P&D; Technologies Inc., formerly known as PRC Engineering Inc., to prepare an environmental impact report for the Lacy expansion.

County officials have proposed new buildings that would increase the number of inmates at Lacy from 770 to nearly 1,800.

Both requests are scheduled to be considered at Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors.

On June 9, the supervisors raised the law firm’s payment for its work on the Anaheim jail after company attorneys said it was taking more time than expected to defend the county against Anaheim’s lawsuit seeking to stop construction of a jail at Katella Avenue and Douglass Road.
