Padres Send Dravecky and Mitchell to Giants for Brown in 7-Player Deal

The San Diego Padres traded left-handed pitchers Dave Dravecky and Craig Lefferts and infielder Kevin Mitchell to the San Francisco Giants for third baseman Chris Brown and three pitchers Saturday night.

The Padres, whose bullpen blew a 3-1 lead in losing, 4-3, to the Montreal Expos earlier Saturday night, also got left-handers Keith Comstock and Mark Davis and right-hander Mark Grant.

Dravecky, 50-43 with a 3.04 earned-run average in five years with the Padres, is 3-7 with a 3.76 ERA this season. Lefferts, in his third season with the Padres after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs, is 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA and 2 saves in 33 relief appearances.

Mitchell, acquired by San Diego in an off-season trade that sent outfielder Kevin McReynolds to the New York Mets, is hitting .245 with 7 home runs and 26 runs batted in.

Brown, who hit .317 with 7 homers and 49 RBIs last season, is batting only .234 with 5 homers and 15 RBIs.

Comstock is 2-0 with a 3.26 ERA and 1 save in 14 games; Davis is 4-5 with a 4.71 ERA in 20 games, and Grant is 1-2 with 1 save and a 3.54 ERA in 16 games.
