The Long and the Short of It

Share

When I began reading Paddy Calistro’s “Maximum Leg Room” ( June 7), telling us that “skirt length will no longer be a matter of choice. Minis are back,” I got ready to enjoy a tongue-in-cheek piece about the never-say-die effort of some fashion mongers to reinstitute conformity. But to my horror what I read was an admonishment, with exercise instructions galore and fail-safe surgery tips, that too fat and too thin won’t do for a “womanly pair of legs.”

Under the guise of being “healthy looking,” we’re supposed to accept this as being different from the fashion drivel of the past that makes big bucks convincing women to throw out their current wardrobe and buy, buy, buy. Having a wide range of lengths and styles available in stores and individual variation in taste endorsed by fashion mavens wasn’t a recent fad. It was progress.

My answer is: Hell no, we won’t tow--the hemline, that is.
