California--Sam Brunstein, Los Angeles: “A B&B; that is definitely worth mentioning, Taylor’s Estero Vista Inn, 17699 Highway 1, Bodega 94922. Rates $45/$65 double.”

California--Ellen A. Keith, San Diego: “Archie and Bunny Stockebrand are the gracious hosts of this family-oriented guest ranch set in a lovely valley, the M Bar J Guest Ranch, P.O. Box 67, Badger 93603. Room for 27 guests. Food is excellent. Breakfast, evening rides. A creek babbles past the front door. Rates: $70 daily with reduced rates for children ($20 and $30), which includes all meals and activities.”

California--Donald and Dolly Reece, Glendale: “The 10-room Story Book Inn, 2817 Highway 18, P.O. Box 362, Skyforest 92385 (Lake Arrowhead). Costs $60 to $110 for suites. A cozy lounge with two fireplaces and a solarium that overlooks the valley. All rooms with a view. Redecorated. Hors d’oeuvres and wine served in the late afternoon. Breakfast each morning.”

Washington--William Ganz, Los Angeles: “I want to share our pleasant bed-and-breakfast experience at DeCann House, 2610 Eldridge Ave., Bellingham, Wash. 98225. Housekeeping spotless. Robes and dressing gowns. Two rooms available, $35 to $50. Overlooks Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands.”

Kansas--Mary Lee Kind, Thousand Oaks: “A big farmhouse dating from 1894. An impressive view of Wildcat Creek Valley. A variety of coffeecakes. The Kimble Cliff B&B;, 6782 Anderson Ave., Manhattan, Kan. 66502. Price for a double including breakfast, $35.”

Oregon--Ruth and Jay Sher, Los Angeles: “Just returned from the Pacific Northwest. Traveled with Personalized Tours & Travel, P.O. Box 17513, Portland, Ore. 97217. Best guides we’ve ever had. Plenty of flexibility in the program. Campers pay $310 for the week and those of us who preferred a lodge or motel paid $480.”

Maine--L. Bowes, Capistrano Beach: “Enjoyed Seacrest Manor, Rockport, Me. 01966. Seven rooms with beautiful antiques, ocean view. Decidedly small, quiet. Address 131 Marmion Way. Rates $60/$80.”

Utah--Dick and Gwen Roche, Arcadia: “B&B; in an authentic sandstone home built in 1890s and restored to original condition. Eight rooms with baths. Friendly hosts. The single concession to modern times is an indoor Jacuzzi. Excellent breakfast. Prices $35/$65 double. The Manti House Inn, 401 N. Main St. (U.S. 89), Manti, Utah 84642.”

Arizona--Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Tott, Santa Maria: “A delightful B&B; 1 1/2 hours’ drive from the Grand Canyon. It’s the Mt. Pleasant Inn, 4927 Mt. Pleasant Drive, Flagstaff, Ariz. 86004. English-style Tudor home of Mrs. E. J. Buol, a charming lady who makes you feel at home. Paid $50 for two. Had a lovely room with two queen beds and bath plus full breakfast, all this in a restful setting of pine trees.”

Nevada--Claire and Jim Chambless, Anaheim: “Genoa House Inn, Genoa, Nev. 89411. Built in 1872. Filled with antiques. The Rose Room where we stayed has a magnificent stained-glass window. Chilled refreshments awaited us on our arrival. A delicious breakfast. Rates $65/$75.”

Canada--Verna and Jim Heckman, San Pedro: “A truly five-star B&B; called the Shirewood, 8115 Central Sannich Road, Sannichton, B.C. VOS-1MO. Near Victoria and Butchart Gardens. In a quiet, rural setting. Old English furnishings, queen beds, private baths. Farm-fresh breakfasts. Gracious hosts are John and Patricia Johnson. Paid $65 Canadian.”

Bora Bora--Jack and Deidre Evans, Malibu: “Hotel Matira offers thatched-hut bungalows with kitchenettes on a secluded white-sand beach. Cost $110 a day including 7% hotel tax. The hotel’s Chinese restaurant features excellent curries and fresh fish for $11 to $14, half the cost of other restaurants. Hotel Matira, P.O. Box 31, Bora Bora, French Polynesia.”

Germany--Kelly R. Moore, Westlake: “A fabulous landhaus, Erbguth’s, Neugartenstrasse 39, 7759 Hagnau/Bodensee, Germany. Cost, 200 DM a night. Only a ferry ride away from Austria and Switzerland.”

France--Gerald Hillier, Riverside: High praise for several restaurants--Les Trois Clefs, 26 Rue des Trois Faucons, Avignon; Restaurant l’Oellade, 10 Rue St.-Simon, 7A, near St. Germain-des-Pres and the Musee d’Orsay, even offers picnic takeouts; Le Relais Clemenceau 40, Blvd. Clemenceau, Pontorson (10 kilometers south of Le Mont St. Michel); Restaurant Le Camagnard 69, Rue du Mail, Angers; Le Cassoulet 40, Rue Peyroliers, Toulouse; Des Quat’Arts, 2 bis , Place au Beurre, Quimper.

Paid $19 at the first hotel and $32 at the second.”

France--Mima and Arthur Pereira, Brentwood: “Comfortable, reasonable small bed-and-breakfast hotel, the Maybelle Iribe, 33 Rue Thiers, La Rochelle 17000, France. Convenient to shops, restaurants, transportation. Large rooms, each with their own bath, double $60, single $45.”

France/Austria--Frank Miles, Torrance: Recommends Hotel Emminger, 5023 Salzburg, Reisenbergerstrasse 16, Austria. “Last summer paid $74 for a room and breakfast for a family of four.” Delasse Hotel, 50820 Brix (10 kilometers from Cherbourg). “Paid $41 last summer for a room and breakfast for the four of us.”

Scotland--Roslyn E. Klaus, Los Angeles: “Wholeheartedly recommend The Spinne B&B; operated by Sandra and Graham Fry, Langlee, Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scotland. All rooms with bath at 12 per person a night with full breakfast. A great place.”

Wales--Sid Maddocks, Temple City: “Enjoyed a B&B; in a quaint village six miles from historic Chester and within easy reach of the Welsh countryside, English Lake District, Bronte country and York. Cost 15 per person a night. Owned by Neil and Hilda Geggie, 17 the Wigdale, Hawarden, Clwyd, North Wales CH 5 3LL.”

Britain--Peter D. Ellis, Los Angeles: Recommends two B&Bs.; “In England enjoyed home of Alan and Dorothy Fielding, Rosemont, Lake Road, Windermere, Cumbria LA23 2EQ. Rate, $34 a night. In Scotland stayed at the home of Mrs. Eileen Dickie, No. 22 E. Claremont St., Edinburgh EH7 4JP. Rate, $35 a night.”

Ireland--Mr. and Mrs. Charles O’Harra, Barstow: “A wonderful bed and breakfast in the new home of Noel and Kathleen de Hora, Tin Cone, Ferrybank, Wexford. Large room with private bath and full Irish breakfast, 10 per person. Rooms with bath down the hall for 9 per person.”
