Educate the People

Share

The article June 14 on Manaus, Brazil, by Valerie Wells was a sad commentary on the writer’s lack of basic understanding of wildlife values and ecology. Exploitation of wildlife, in this case harpooning an alligator for tourist dollars, may be understandable for poor Third World country people, but how can an American tourist justify this act? Instead of paying to see animals injured or killed, why not educate the poor people that Americans will return only as long as the wildlife and its habitat are intact?
