ALMONT GROUP IN CHAMBER SERIES

The Almont Ensemble, a combination of clarinet, three strings and piano, will open the four-concert E. Nakamichi Foundation Chamber Music Series at the Huntington Library, San Marino, July 20 at 8 p.m. in the Friends’ Hall.

The program: Mozart’s Trio in E-flat for clarinet, viola and piano, the Ingolf Dahl’s “Concerto a Tre” (1947) and Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet, with guest bassist Fred Charlton.

The Almont Ensemble was formed by cellist/composer Tom Flaherty in 1981. Besides Flaherty, the members are pianist Charlotte Zelka, clarinetist Al Rice, violinist David Stenske and violist Cynthia Fogg. The group has been the resident ensemble at the Pasadena Conservatory, where four of the members teach. The ensemble has commissioned several works.

Other concerts in the series will be given by the Masterpiece Virtuosi, a Los Angeles based group of 11 members, featuring violinist Mischa Lefkowitz, Aug. 10 and Oct. 12, and the Premiat Trio, from Boulder, Col., Sept. 28.
