Cipher Data Sells Garden Grove Plant
Cipher Data Products Inc. said that it has agreed to sell its unused Garden Grove manufacturing facility to Alps Electric U.S.A. for approximately $10 million in cash.
The 168,000-square-foot plant, which once employed 700 workers, was vacated late last year after San Diego-based Cipher moved its production to facilities in Singapore and San Diego.
Alps, the San Jose-based American subsidiary of Alps Electric Co. Ltd., a Japanese computer products firm, already maintains a facility in Garden Grove but is expanding, a Cipher official said.
Alps officials could not be reached for comment.
Cipher said in a prepared statement that the selling price of the Garden Grove facility represents its book value.
