Local News in Brief : Valley Residents to Fill 2 Court Vacancies
Two San Fernando Valley residents were named Wednesday by Gov. George Deukmejian to fill vacancies in Los Angeles County courts.
Municipal Judge Ronald S. Coen, 39, of Burbank was elevated to the Superior Court. He replaces Ronald S. W. Lew, who was appointed to the United States District Court.
Coen is a former Los Angeles County deputy district attorney. He directed the district attorney’s organized crime section from 1973 through 1985, when he was appointed to the Muncipal Court bench.
Maureen Duffy-Lewis, 37, of Chatsworth was appointed to the Municipal Court, replacing Cary H. Nishimoto, who was elevated to the Superior Court. She has been a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney since 1984.
Duffy-Lewis formerly was an assistant dean for the Northrop University School of Law in Los Angeles and an associate with the Woodland Hills law firm of Brauer & Lewis. She also is a former teacher.
Superior Court judges earn $81,505 annually and municipal judges make $74,432.
