A 6-month-old, 150-pound bear will replace her cousin in the Seattle Opera’s performances of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” because the original bear has gotten a little too big and ornery for the stage, opera officials said. Ancestor, a Kodiak bear, comes from Washington’s Olympic Game farm in Sequim and is the youngest member of the Seattle Opera to be officially inducted into the American Guild of Musical Artists, officials said. Ancestor will replace Colossal the bear, who performed the role last year. Performances begin Aug. 2.
