Five people were killed in a pontoon plane crash on Long Lake in New Brighton, Minn., as the wife of the 72-year-old veteran pilot watched, officials said. Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputy Frank Herbst said that the single-engine plane made a good taxi and run on the lake and had a good liftoff, but it stalled 20 to 25 feet in the air and crashed nose first into the water. All aboard, two men, one woman and a young boy and girl, were killed. Officials said the pilot had been flying since World War II.
