The Region : 1 Boy Killed, 2 Injured; Driver Arrested

A suspected drunk driver traveling on the wrong side of a street on Fernly Drive in Duarte swerved across a curb and hit three boys on a sidewalk, killing one and seriously injuring two, authorities said. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Fidel Gonzales said the driver, Javier Martinez Cabrera, 28, of Duarte, was booked on suspicion of manslaughter and felony drunk driving. The car hit Francisco Guzman, 8, Enrique Urrettia and Jesus Corona, both 13, Gonzales said. All three boys lived in the neighborhood. Jesus died at Santa Teresita Hospital in Duarte. Francisco was in critical condition at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina and Enrique was in serious condition at Glendora Community Hospital.
