Latino Candidates
I was quite puzzled that the Los Angeles Times poll (“Bradley: Is He Losing Old Touch?” July 1) omitted the mention of any Latino candidates in the forthcoming election. Less than a month ago an editorial in The Times itself noted the presence of viable Latino candidates for the mayoralty. Some of these candidates would certainly have more than the 10% name recognition and support that the least well known candidate in your poll garnered. At a minimum, any of the well known political figures in the Eastside, such as Rep. Ed Roybal or state Sen. Art Torres, should have been selected for inclusion in this poll.
Latinos, who constitute close to a third of the city’s population, and who hold two of the City Council’s 15 seats, have many capable individuals who are adding much to the city’s future. It is unfortunate that The Times should ignore this segment of the political community.
