Eulogy for First Mayor of Norwalk

Share

Recently, the world lost Fred Astaire, known for his tremendous charm and grace. And recently, Southern California lost Roy E. Reynolds, the first mayor of Norwalk and a longtime public leader who demonstrated great personal charm and grace to the thousands his life significantly touched.

To read Roy’s resume was like thumbing through a “Who’s Who” of our area. Not only did Roy successfully lead the incorporation of Norwalk 30 years ago and serve as its founding mayor, but he gave himself with great commitment and dedication to his community, state and nation.

From his early roots in Kansas, Roy brought to our area and its people, for over three decades, a true spark of hope and optimism. He had a tremendous amount of energy and an exceptional ability to lead people in communities and organizations, and a genuine love and compassion for his fellow man.

The unique dance steps and routines of Fred Astaire shall no longer be seen by us, nor will the low, resonate baritone sound of Roy E. Reynolds be heard by us, providing encouragement, support or assistance. Yet our lives and our world are truly better today and tomorrow because of the Fred Astaires and Roy Reynolds that we were so fortunate to have among us.
