E. F. Hutton said net income totaled $45.9 million in its second quarter, compared to a loss of $4.7 million a year ago. The New York-based company attributed the improvement to completion of the sale of E. F. Hutton Insurance Group Inc., income from discontinued operations and an extraordinary credit representing the tax benefit for use of a capital loss carryforward.
