Shearson Lehman Bros. reported record net income of $61.4 million, up 1.8%, in its second quarter. The New York-based firm attributed the results to increases in revenue from commissions, investment banking and investment advising and higher earnings from its Boston Co. subsidiary. These increases offset higher operating expenses and a higher effective corporate tax rate, the firm said.
