Thieves stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry, including and gold watch and jeweled necklaces and bracelets, from the Italian villa of the Netherlands’ former queen, Juliana, royal family spokesman Fred Loertzer said today.

The theft occurred Sunday, a day after Juliana and her husband, Prince Bernhard, arrived at the villa near Porto Ercole on Italy’s northern Mediterranean coast for their annual vacation. It was kept secret for five days “in connection with the investigation,” Loertzer said.
