QUIBBLES & BITS

. . . Groan: The Movieline roundup of Fred Astaire videos had this headline: “Heaven, He’s in Heaven. . . .” Editor-in-chief Laurie Smith told us, “We all thought it was in bad taste, but half of us thought it was witty in bad taste, and that half won.”

. . . Talk about jumping the gun! Columbia’s ads for the sneak preview screening of “La Bamba” touted the Ritchie Valens bio as “the sleeper hit of the summer.” But how can a movie be a sleeper hit if it hasn’t opened yet? (Friday’s the big day.)

. . . Call us when it peels: A p.r. firm for the Western Wallcovering Distributors Assn. sent us a four-page press release on the “Colorful History of Wallpaper” . . . along with two 8x10 glossies of . . . wallpaper.

. . . With all the hoopla orchestrated by Disney for the 50th anniversary of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” no one seems to have noticed they’re jumping the gun by about six months: The film premiered on Dec. 21, 1937.

. . . Oh, they’ve also “colorized” the new poster for the film--giving her a dress with thistle-pink skirt and matching bow instead of the ivory dress and red bow that she wears in the film.

. . . Mr. Joyboy: William Thompson, who plans to produce “The Liberace Story” on film, also owns Redd Foxx Barbeque Sauce, a restaurant chain and mortuaries in Chicago and Nevada.

. . . How many Hollywood producers does it take to screw in a light bulb? Who knows? But it took seven producers to make “Innerspace”: Steven Spielberg, Peter Guber and Jon Peters were exec producers; Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy were co-exec producers; co-writer Chip Proser was merely a co-producer; Michael Finnell was simply “producer” (and we hear did all the work). With the movie sagging at the box office, will they all rush out to take their credit?

. . . At the movie memorabilia show at the Hyatt on Sunset Sunday, a collector was buying an old Ronald Reagan poster and asked the dealer, “If he gets indicted, can I get my money back?” (Answer: “No.”)
