Teske, Berglund Win Pro Bike Races at Seal Beach Grand Prix

Evan Teske of Huntington Beach won the category 1 and 2 professional division of the Seal Beach Grand Prix 30-mile bicycle race Saturday.

James Luke of the Brea Velo club finished second and Greg Valenzuela, also from the Brea club, finished third. Teske won $2,000.

Marianne Berglund of Sweden, the 1983 World Road champion, won the women’s division on the 15-mile course. She won $600.

Meg Berry of Bernies Bike Club was second and Doreen Smith of the San Diego Velo Club was third.

Two of the prerace favorites in the men’s race--Nelson Vails, a 1984 silver medalist in the Olympics who lives in Surfside and Greg Demgen of San Diego--failed to show.

Tony Vincente of the Santa Barbara Bicycle Club won the 20-mile category 3 amateur race with Kurt Andrew of the Velo Orange club in second and Luis Ahanvaz of the Montrose club in third.

Two men’s amateur category 4 races were held because of the great number of entries.

The first 15-mile course was won by Chris Merritt of the Prairie Club and the second by Chris Gallop, who was unattached.

In the veteran’s 15-mile course, Doug Knox of the Santa Barbara club was first, Jim Miller of the Redlands club was second and Walter Resissig of the El Dorado club third.

Jack Druskorich of the South Bay bike club won the juniors 13-15 eight-mile race and Ross Winstein of the Expert Racing club won the juniors 16-17.
