Above the Din

Share

Be advised that Jack Smith is not a lone voice crying out against the tyranny of loud music (“Sound and Fury,” June 21). For years I have been annoyed with the ear-shattering degree to which music is amplified. I have been to wedding receptions where conversation with one’s dining companions was of necessity a shouting match. I invariably come home from such occasions not only with a headache but also with a sore throat from trying to make audible conversation.

No, Jack Smith, you are no lone voice, for here is a sympathizer who would certainly have cried out against this affront--but, alas, I could not make myself heard over the loud din of amplified music.
