A Los Angeles police task force, using the Immediate Booking And Release System, arrested 124 suspected drunk drivers in a two-night sweep of Wilmington streets. Officers arrested 60 suspected drunk drivers Friday night and 64 on Saturday, Officer Cathy Borjas said. They also arrested one man on suspicion of possession of cocaine, a felony. Three suspected drunk drivers fled police, who caught two of them after a brief pursuit, Borjas said. The third driver escaped, as did a passenger who had been riding with one of the two arrested drivers. The passenger had a handgun, she said. The program allows police to rapidly process drunk driving suspects and hold them in a converted bus until relatives or friends pick them up.
