Countywide : Transit District Board Orders 75 New Buses

Share

Some passengers of the Orange County Transit District will start riding new buses by the end of the year as the result of a 75-bus, $12.7-million purchase order approved Monday by district board members.

Joanne Curran, district spokeswoman, said the new buses will replace vehicles that have been in service for at least 12 years or 500,000 miles. The district has 440 large buses and 135 dial-a-ride vans.

The purchase plan was contained in the district’s 1987-88 budget approved earlier this month. The buses will be bought from Gillig Corp. of Hayward in Alameda County. The buses will accommodate at least 47 passengers and have wheelchair lifts.
