The architectural firm that planned Rancho Santa Margarita has been retained to assist the Walt Disney Co. in planning Euro Disneyland east of Paris.

Irvine-based Phillips Brandt Reddick will help create a planned community at the French version of Disney World, a $2-billion project scheduled to open in 1992.

The entire Euro Disneyland project will include at least two theme parks, 18,200 hotel rooms, 222.3 acres of retail shopping and 172.9 acres of office space, said James B. Cora, executive vice-president for Euro Disneyland and Disneyland International. It will take about 20 years to fully develop, Cora said.

Phillips Brandt Reddick’s contract calls for it to work with the Imagineering division of Walt Disney Co. to design a mixed community of retail, hotel and office buildings on 4,500 acres. A French architectural firm will also be involved.
