Japanese Foreign Minister Tadashi Kuranari plans to visit India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Aug. 9-16 to strengthen Japan’s relations with the three countries, the Sankei newspaper reported Thursday.

The paper said the trip is aimed at developing Japan’s relations with the seven-member South Asian Assn. for Regional Cooperation, of which the three nations are members.

Government leaders pledged Japan’s efforts to promote dialogue with the organization when Pakistani Premier Mohammed Khan Junejo visited Tokyo last week.
