Navratilova’s Federation Cup Status Uncertain
Federation Cup officials were awaiting word Thursday on the playing status of Wimbledon champion Martina Navratilova, who sprained her left ankle playing basketball.
Henry Wenke, media director of the international women’s team event, said Navratilova was having the ankle re-examined. She injured it Wednesday.
Federation Cup play begins Monday in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“She is still part of the team. Whether she plays in the first match remains to be seen,” Wenke said from his Vancouver office.
Navratilova originally injured the ankle playing in the Virginia Slims event at New Orleans.
