Members of the Boys and Girls Club of the Harbor Area hope that cards attached to helium balloons will be found and returned as part of a campaign to combat drug abuse.

The cards ask the finders to pledge to forgo drugs and to return the cards to the Boys and Girls Club.

The balloons were launched by 150 youngsters during a rally last Tuesday at the Lou Yantorn Branch of the club in Costa Mesa. The effort is part of a nationwide program sponsored by Boys and Girls Clubs. Members of branches in Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Irvine participated with the help of Athletes for Kids, a nonprofit organization committed to working with youngsters through special events.
