U.S. Judge Dismisses Capital Mayor’s Suit on Grand Jury Leaks

WASHINGTON — A federal judge Friday dimissed a lawsuit filed by Mayor Marion Barry Jr. that charged the U.S. attorney with prosecutorial abuse in an investigation of alleged corruption in city contracting.
In his suit filed June 19, the mayor blamed news accounts about grand jury proceedings on leaks from U.S. Atty. Joseph diGenova and his office and submitted a one-inch-high stack of newspaper stories as evidence.
U.S. District Judge Aubrey Robinson said Barry and his lawyers failed to meet their burden of proof that leaks about the grand jury had come from prosecutors.
