7 Unseeded County Surfers Advance

Seven unseeded Orange County surfers were among the 16 that advanced Friday in the $1,200 Boarder Line tournament being held north of the San Clemente Pier.

Chris Mauro of South Laguna, Terrance McNaulty of Capistrano Beach, Todd Miller of Costa Mesa, Craig Melia of San Clemente, George Hulse and Chris Billy of San Juan Capistrano and Jeff Booth of Laguna Beach advanced from the original unseeded field of 96 which surfed in two-to-three foot waves.

The 16 will move into the fourth round, which starts at 9 a.m. today, with the top 32 seeded surfers.

The first round of the long boarding division starts at 7 a.m. today, and the first round of body boarding at 3 p.m.
