DEFENDING ‘BABYSITTING’
As a successful black businessman with accomplishments in the entertainment industry, I feel that the portrayal of the stereotypic black characterizations in “Adventures in Babysitting” as racist undermines the equal opportunity principle for artists. Are we licensing comic portrayals of blacks only by black film makers?
In order for America to be a balanced and healthy society, film makers Debra Hill and Lynda Rosen-Obst must be allowed the same freedom as Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor in their pursuit to juxtapose creative stereotypes to induce humor.
My friends and I enjoyed this movie and laughed throughout the evening. Surely, such timely humor in entertainment is healthy for all of us.
