Rights of People and of Pit Bulls

Share

The fact that Ugly the pit bull climbed not one but two six-foot fences in order to attack a non-threatening dog is truly terrifying. This means that a pit bull in its own fenced yard could scale the fence(s) to reach your child in your fenced yard.

Other dog breeds share a fence-climbing ability, yet none share the earned reputation of the pit bull as an aggressive, attacking killer.

I deeply resent the fear a loose dog brings when it comes toward me and my little boy. Grown men have used clubs and even bullets to break a pit bull’s bite. What could you do if it was you or your child being attacked? Ugly’s victim bled to death before it could be helped. We know that leashes, six-foot fences and a growing number of owners cannot or will not contain their pit bulls.

What our elected officials can do to contain them remains to be seen, but I hope our rights as people are given considerably more weight than the “rights” of this particular breed of dog.
