RIVERSIDE — A police bomb squad blew up a car after its driver parked along the Riverside Freeway Saturday and notified authorities there was a bomb in the vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
Investigators found an explosive device, or devices, in the car and the driver, Jody Johnson, 25, was booked for investigation of possession of explosive or destructive devices, CHP Dispatcher Dee Luna said.
The freeway’s southbound lanes were closed and traffic was diverted for more than six hours while police bomb experts and Highway Patrol officers tried to sort things out.
The Riverside Police Department bomb squad set off small charges to open the vehicle and then decided to blow up the car, Luna said.
