Hurricane Eugene slammed into the Pacific coast of Mexico with 110-m.p.h winds, flooding the resort city of Manzanillo and leaving at least 60 people homeless, authorities said. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries, but officials requested medicine, clothing and food from neighboring states as heavy rains and high winds pounded the city. By midday, heavy rains began to fall in Puerto Vallarta, another tourist resort 65 miles northwest of Manzanillo. The weather service said Eugene could reach Puerto Vallarta by early today.
