Goodyear Tire & Rubber profit rose 31%to $141 million for the second quarter. The Akron, Ohio, company credited a sharp increase in earnings from tire operations. The company was aided by growth in the auto industry, and profit on foreign sales was helped by the decline of the dollar. Sales were up 8.5%, the company said.
