Local News in Brief : Vernon Sauble, Encino Developer, Dies at 90
Pioneering Encino developer Vernon H. Sauble, whose construction projects ranged from government buildings to private homes, has died at the age of 90, it was announced Monday.
Sauble was visiting in Springfield, Ore., when he died Wednesday of heart failure, a family spokesman said.
As a contractor and architectural engineer, Sauble built Encino’s first medical center and, in 1953, its community center. He constructed the Encino Community Church twice--in 1964 and in 1970, after the first structure burned.
Sauble also built post offices in Sherman Oaks and Newhall, said William M. Neighbors, a longtime friend.
Sauble was active in charity fund-raising events, neighbors said. For 29 years the developer was a director of the Pacific Lodge Boys Home in Woodland Hills, where one of its residential cottages bears his name, said a lodge official.
Sauble is survived by his wife, Susan, a sister, Irene, and a brother, Edward. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Encino Community Church, the spokesman said.
