Los Angeles-based Boys Markets announced plans to buy the eight-store Foods Co. markets chain for about $16 million. Boys Markets currently has 46 stores. Peter Sodini, Boys’ president and chief executive, said the purchase “represents an excellent opportunity to serve additional densely populated urban neighborhoods in the Los Angeles area not presently served by our company.” About 80% of Boys Markets stores are in predominantly Latino, black and Asian neighborhoods, according to the company.
