San Diego State has signed a contract to play Miami, Fla., in a 16-year home-and-home football series beginning in 1989, SDSU Athletic Director Fred Miller announced Wednesday.

The first game will be played Nov. 18, 1989, at Miami. The first game in San Diego is scheduled for Dec. 1, 1990. The series is to continue through 2004.

Miller said he was pleased by the length of the contract and the opportunity to begin a series that could be attractive to television networks interested in an East-West matchup.

SDSU and Miami have met twice before, with each team winning at home. The Aztecs won the last game in the series, 31-20, in 1979.
