Nielsen Tries to Lead World Comeback at Ascot
World speedway motorcycle champion Hans Nielsen of Denmark will attempt to lead his World team in a comeback tonight against Team USA in the final round of the Budweiser American Cup Challenge at Ascot Park.
The United States leads, 62-46, after the first round Thursday night on the 220-yard South Bay Speedway track. Competition tonight will be on the half-mile oval, closer in dimension to the European tracks.
Nielsen is the individual leader with 14 points, including four wins in six races. Rob Pfetzing of the United States is next with 13. England’s Phil Collins, who has been a regular at Ascot this summer, scored 10 points in only four rides.
