Mexico’s Alcala Wins Hilo Bicycle Prologue

HILO, Hawaii —
Mexico’s Raul Alcala won the 2.8-mile Hawaiian Surf Prologue Wednesday, taking a three-second lead over 7-Eleven teammate Ron Kiefel heading into the first stage of the Coors bicycle race.
Alcala completed the circular course in downtown Hilo in 6 minutes 20.27 seconds. Kiefel, of Wheatridge, Colo., finished in 6:23.09.
In third place was Andy Hampsten, one of the favorites in the 1,385-mile, 19-event race. He was timed in 6:27.43.
