Relatives of a woman killed in the crash of a vintage plane during an air show have filed claims seeking $24 million from the city, county and state.
Omega Joyce Matthews, 49, of San Diego, was killed May 10 during the show at Brown Field, near the Mexican border. She was a passenger on a plane flown by Morris Moss, 62, of Los Angeles. Moss was also killed when the World War II-era fighter he was flying crashed during a roll.
The claims seek $5 million from each of the three governments for Matthews’ husband and $1 million for each of the couple’s three children.
The family contends that the City of San Diego, which maintains the airfield, was negligent in allowing Moss to take a passenger.
The family’s attorney, Robert Moore of El Cajon, said Thursday that all three governments are being sued in case one entity rejects the claim on jurisdictional grounds.
