Father Ends Search for Son Who Drowned
The father of a teen-ager who died saving friends from floodwaters that engulfed a stalled bus said Sunday that he was ending the search for his son’s body.
John Bankston Jr., 17, was last seen helping others to safety in the Guadalupe River flooding that engulfed a church bus and van on July 17. The bodies of nine other teen-agers were recovered, and 33 people were rescued.
John Bankston hunted for his son for three weeks, enlisting the aid of thousands of volunteers and six bulldozers and backhoes from the state.
