The 92-team English Football League will receive $6.4 million over the next three years from Barclays Bank, the league and sponsor announced.

The announcement came just two days before the start of the soccer league’s 100th season and follows the surprise withdrawal earlier this month of the previous sponsor, an English national newspaper.

Reports said Barclays outbid three other major companies for the richest sponsorship in British sport.
