Television networks cover Congress in a “hit-and-run,” distorted manner, repeatedly putting an elite group of House and Senate leaders on the evening news while ignoring the majority, a study by a Southern Illinois University professor concluded Monday. The study of ABC, NBC and CBS’s regular TV evening newscasts--seven days a week through 1985 and 1986-- found that 5% of House members accounted for 50% of appearances.
