A Houston millionaire bought Greta Garbo’s custom-built 1933 Duesenberg convertible for $1.4 million at a benefit auction Tuesday in Lake George, N.Y. Jerry Moore, owner of the world’s largest Duesenberg collection bid by telephone for the maroon luxury car with cream-colored leather upholstery. The car, built for Garbo in Paris, was bought for $90,000 by amusement park owner Charles Wood at an auction 18 years ago. Wood has guaranteed that he will donate at least $1 million from the Duesenberg sale to the Hyde Collection art museum in Glens Falls, N.Y., where an educational wing is planned.
