Carson : Council Votes to Pay Dues

Share

The City Council has decided to pay $1,725 in annual dues to the Southern California Assn. of Governments even though that organization supports the expansion of the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, which the council complained is putting too much truck and train traffic through Carson.

In an appearance before the council, Mark Pisano, executive director of the association, said the organization is aiding city planning in areas such as housing and transportation. He defended the ports expansion by saying it will create jobs, and added that the association is working to mitigate the impact of increased traffic.

The vote was 3 to 1, with Councilman Michael Mitoma voting against paying the dues. Councilman Tom Mills was absent.
