Toys ‘R’ Us posted a 27% gain in earnings to $16.65 million in the second quarter. The Rochelle Park, N.J.-based retailer said sales for the quarter were up 21% to $516.6 million. The company said its position as the dominant toy retailer has enabled it to expand its market share during a weak period for the toy industry. The chain currently operates 278 toy stores in the United States, 24 foreign toy stores, 72 Kids ‘R’ Us children’s clothing stores and four department stores.
