Duarte : City Name Choice Narrows
The City Council has dropped Duarte Hills from the list of city names among which voters will choose in the Nov. 3 election.
Voters will be asked whether they want the name of the city changed and, if they do, whether it should be changed to Rancho Duarte or Rancho de Duarte.
The name Rancho Duarte has been considered three times since 1971, when a name change was first proposed to improve the city’s image. Rancho de Duarte was suggested by the Historical Society for grammatical reasons. Duarte Hills was a late entry by Lino Paras, a candidate for the City Council.
Other council candidates are Lee Cromer, John Fasana, Noah Jameson, Leroy Gabriel and Ginny Joyce. Incumbents Mervin Money and Ed Beranek will not seek reelection.
