Compton : Former City Manager Sues
Former Compton City Manager Laverta S. Montgomery filed a $1-million federal sex discrimination lawsuit this week, claiming that she was fired from her $73,452-a-year job last fall because she spurned a marriage proposal from Councilman Robert L. Adams Sr.
Adams denied the allegation in February when the City Council voted to reject a similar damage claim made by Montgomery.
Defendants in the suit include Adams and Councilmen Floyd A. James and Maxcy D. Filer, all of whom voted to fire Montgomery for alleged chronic absenteeism.
